A native of Oklahoma where he spent three years in medical school, Brett moved to Nashville in 1992 to pursue a recording career and was signed to Arista records in 1993 and again in 2000.
Over the past few years Brett James has had more than two hundred of his songs recorded by major label artists and enjoyed multiple hit singles including “Who I Am” by Jessica Andrews (No. 1 for four weeks), “Blessed” by Martina McBride (No. 1 for two weeks), “When the Sun Goes Down” by Kenny Chesney (No. 1 for six weeks), two No. 1 pop songs in Europe and the worldwide Top 5 Latin pop hit “Todo Mi Amor” recorded by Paulina Rubio. In 2005 alone, Brett had five more Top 10 country singles including the six week No. 1 “Jesus, Take the Wheel” for which he won a Grammy. He was also named ASCAP Songwriter of the Year for 2006.
Currently he has singles on the charts by Bon Jovi and the Backstreet Boys, is producing two major label projects, has launched his own publishing company and is serving his second term on the Country Music Association board of directors.
